End of Summer Fishing on the Esopus Creek
While our summer days are fleeting, the fly fishing on the Esopus continues to be hot. The cloudy water being released has not diminished the activity. In fact, it has enabled the angler to get closer to seams and otherwise spooky sections of the river. ISO’s and caddis fished wet on the swing or on top has been effective. Stripping streamers around rocky drop offs or undercut banks has also produced. Be careful of the heat and not over stressing fish so try to avoid the hottest part of the day and quickly release your fish. Try targeting fast oxygen rich riffles as that is where many of the fish will be holding. Good luck!
